Fresh green herbs held in two hands

Organic growing looks after the soil as a living thing. Microbes, compost, and plant roots share that ground. You add organic matter. The soil holds water and feeds the plants.

Compost is the ordinary tool: broken-down plant material, worked into the bed, not a product card on this site. Bagged soils, minerals, and rock dusts are not listed here either.

For greens without soil, start with the Kratky Greens Station Plan.
